Relocating to Luxembourg: Insights from a Recruiter and a Relocation Expert

Published on: 26 May 2026

International relocation is more than filling a role — it’s about helping professionals and their families settle into a new country and way of life.

To explore this topic, I spoke with Stéphane Compain, CEO and Co-Founder of LuxRelo | Immigration & Relocation Services, passionate about guiding families through relocations to Luxembourg.

Why Luxembourg is attractive for professionals and their families

From my experience as a recruiter, many candidates I contact are from abroad and often know very little about Luxembourg. Part of my role is not only matching talent to the right positions, but also introducing them to the country, its lifestyle, and what life here can truly offer.

I fully agree with Stéphane: Luxembourg is unique. Professionals can build a truly international career while enjoying proximity to France, Germany, and Belgium. Multilingual environments are standard, and office diversity genuinely reflects the world. For me personally, it was the international character of Luxembourg that drew me here and makes recruiting in this market so rewarding.

Families also notice the difference. Safety, green spaces, accessible healthcare, and generous family policies make Luxembourg more than a workplace : it is a country where families feel secure. Stéphane shared stories of families quickly appreciating daily life, from children walking safely to school to parents benefiting from parental leave and allowances that truly support families. In my conversations with candidates, these aspects are often key factors in their decision to relocate.

Common challenges during relocation

Moving to Luxembourg is exciting, but the first months can be challenging. Stéphane points out that housing, administrative procedures, and cost of living are often major sources of stress.

From my perspective, housing is usually the main challenge, not only in terms of cost, but also location, which can affect commuting and daily life. Salaries in Luxembourg are generally very competitive compared to neighboring countries, regardless of the position, but it’s important to consider all factors before making the move.

Supporting spouses is another challenge. Even highly skilled professionals can struggle to settle if their partner hasn’t found work or if language is a barrier. I have personally supported candidates perfectly suited for their roles whose integration could have been compromised because of this. In these cases, I guide and advise them on companies or positions that could suit their partner, helping to maximize their chances of a successful relocation. Companies that focus only on the hired employee risk overlooking half the challenge.

Supporting international hires

Companies can make a huge difference by investing in relocation and immigration support from day one. Stéphane emphasizes that this is foundational. Without it, even top talent can get stuck, frustrated, or reconsider their decision.

Stéphane handles the full practical relocation support: apartment viewings, administrative procedures, banks, communes, schools, and insurance. Workplace buddies, language courses, and partner support programs are also essential to ensure a smooth integration.

Recent trends in relocation

Over the past few years, candidate expectations have shifted dramatically. Where salary used to be the main factor, work-life balance, flexibility, sustainability, and family support have now become top priorities. Hybrid work, dual-career realities, and shorter initial commitments are now the norm.

We’ve noticed that candidates do extensive research before accepting an offer, from expat forums to preliminary visits. They arrive informed and with high expectations, making guidance even more critical. Stéphane ensures families have practical support, while I focus on career fit and market preparation, helping international professionals make informed decisions.

Conclusion

Relocation is a challenge, but with the right guidance, international professionals and their families can arrive ready to thrive and succeed in Luxembourg. Recruiters support career transitions, while specialists like Stéphane provide the practical assistance families need to settle smoothly.

My role is to inform and advise candidates on the market, lifestyle, and realities of life in Luxembourg, while operational support from a relocation specialist remains ideal for handling the more specific logistical and administrative aspects.
