A clear CV requires clear and correct use of language. You’ll find some recommendations below.

  • Be concise and clear.
  • Avoid grammatical errors and unusual abbreviations!
  • Ensure correct use of capitals and punctuation marks.
  • Refrain from using jargon or complicated task descriptions for previous jobs.

A good CV has to look its part. That’s why we provide some recommendations to make sure your CV looks good.

  • Create clear sections. Use white spaces and frames, but don’t overdo it.
  • Make sure important information stands out. Use bold or underlined text, or use colour. Again: don’t overdo it.

Keep in mind that the content is what matters most in a CV. So, make sure that the copy is drafted clearly and is free of grammatical or spelling errors.

Include:

  • Contact details (name, address, telephone number, email address)
  • Personal information (driving licence, nationality, date of birth, etc.)

CV: Education

State your education and courses in order of importance (from your highest degree to the lowest). Include other relevant courses such as extra training.  

CV: Experience

List all your relevant experience. This may involve jobs and internships, but holiday jobs as well. Include time periods and the role you performed at the company.

Haven't had a job for a while? Be honest! Perhaps you were caring for your children, were ill, travelled, etc. Fill in the gaps in your CV with positive information.  

CV: Skills

You can sell yourself better by emphasising your various skills. That’s why you’ll state all the skills that may be relevant to your job in your CV. Include:

  • Languages
  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge of practical matters such as electricity, sanitary, etc.
  • Relevant hobbies

CV: References

Provide contact details for people who can describe you as an employee. These may be former colleagues as well as employers. State the individual’s role, his/her phone number, and the company where he/she are working. Make sure you only provide references that can benefit your application.
